Will you wait longer?
The theme of waiting has been on our hearts this week. It is hard to do when the world we live in says "don't wait." Psalm 33 says, "We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name."
Don't you think there must be some keys to waiting patiently when everything in us says, "Go ahead, move, jump, do, get, charge it, say it!"? This Psalmist reveals one to us. Hope. You can wait at a bus station, or a green park, or Burger King or a mud pit if you have hope. If you have a good sense that their is One who not only will help you, but is your shield. Someone you can trust in.
Often, I look to myself or other things of the world when I need hope. For small things they can be helpful. But never for the deep and hard questions in life. And more importantly, never for the questions that may never be answered. For those I have to wait. Perhaps they will never be answered. That could cause me to be despondent, unless I hope in something, Someone higher. Someone who is above my thoughts and ways. Someone who can see the big picture.
Verse 22 of this Psalm is helpful as you ask the question, "What do I do then?" He prays, "May Your unfailing love rest upon us O Lord, even as we put our hope in You." It is a "give and take" so to speak. As you hope in Him ask Him to cause His unfailing love to rest upon you. It is like a shield for your heart so you won't be discouraged.
So, if you are down a bit this week, cry out to God to give you hope and to cover you with His unfailing love. And wait.
