Stand up!
This weekend we will continue in the book of Acts. We will also take a bit of time to stand before the Lord as the book of the Law is read. Some of you might be excited about that, some might not be and many might say, "What?"
The law. None of us like to think about it because we get this sense it hems us in, cuts our freedom and hampers our style. Do this and don't do that. (More don't do that) So why would we read it and furthermore, why would we stand and read it?
Paul in the letter to the Galatians has much to say about it. The law is a tutor in a sense; it teaches us we fail and we need Christ. The law is helpful to Godly living (contrary to popular opinion) and the law actually restrains evil. In the Old Testament leaders from time to time read the Book of the Law to the people. The reaction is 'God fear' in a good way. Usually people fall down and worship.
Perhaps this weekend as we stand, we will hear well and have a desire to fall down and worship Him. He is the One who lived the law perfectly. He is the One who paid the debt for our failure to keep it and He is the One who helps us move towards healthy living. Worth standing up for. Worship well!
