In the Ditch

I officiated at a wedding today. The couple got off to a rough start. Early this morning before the wedding the groom backed his soon to be sister in law's car into a ditch. Stuck solid. Hours later (even after the wedding) AAA had still not arrived.

As I thought through it I thought, what a great picture. This guy will back into a ditch often in marriage. He will get stuck, do something he should not have done, and he will not be able to get out of it. He will have to call for help. It is that old miry pit again. Mud.

He will have to call on the Spirit to help him. Only God can move us along and sanctify us through our mistakes. We just need to call and admit our helplessness. I believe God will show up, at least to talk, faster than AAA. He may not pull him right out of the ditch, but He will have mercy on a poor sinner like a newlywed husband.
