A conversation with God
I am spending time in the Psalms. I encourage you to do that from time to time. I find reading large quantities of them can change my worldview. Somehow they melt me. Comforting, encouraging, real, and earthy are words I use to describe them in general. There is a great variety found in them as they paint this mosaic picture of a man engaged in conversation with his God.
A man in conversation with his God. I am that man this morning. I am thinking the psalmists were a bit like me, (or better I am like them) writing, praying, talking, asking questions like, "God why are you far off?" or making statements like, "I call to the Lord who is worthy of praise."
So today I am asking God to heal, to prevent sin in the body of Christ in spite of its collective free will, to move people to humility, to do miraculous things that will bring joy. I am sure the Psalmists some times received some answers and other times, they lived with "not knowing." In both cases they said what they thought. They prayed what was on their hearts and they let it out. God knew their spoken fears, dreams, joys and concerns.
That is the definition of a healthy relationship. It is good to be a man in conversation with His God and sooner or later we will literally come to the end of Psalm 17:
"And I - in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness."
