Slavery

I would guess you do not think of it often. Wasn't that done away with in the 1860's? In America it was made illegal. But it still happens here. Around the world there are over 25,000,000 known slaves. From iabolish.org:

Slavery today is defined as forced labor without pay under threat of violence.

600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked internationally every year. Approximately 80% of them are women and children.

Slavery is an extremely profitable, international industry. Experts estimate trafficking in the US yields $9 billion every year. Around the world, trafficking in women for commercial sex purposes nets $6 billion per year.

I am wondering tonight how we can worship well as this is going on. What should our response be? Should we do more research to find out if it is true? What would we do if it was? Is the answer found in politics, economics or something else? Good questions. My guess is Jesus would want us to think about it and do something. As Dave Batstone says, "No one should be for sale."
