Then Sing!

I find most people do not root around in Chronicles. After all it seems to be a re-hash. Not quite. Read this from 2 Chronicles 20:

" 20 Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful." 21 After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying:
"Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever."
22 As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. 23 The men of Ammon and Moab rose up against the men from Mount Seir to destroy and annihilate them. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they helped to destroy one another."

So is the principle we sing and God does battle? Perhaps. I came upon this as I was preparing to spend time with one of the worship teams at Perimeter. As I reflected on it I thought, "We are called to sing and pray and who knows what enemies God is conquering as we do?" They could be internal, they could be external. We are called to sing, to pray and to ask Him to do a work. What we do when we worship is a spiritual thing. The pitch can be off a bit, the guitar out of tune a bit, but God is looking at the heart. So we should ask Him, as the old hymn says, to "tune our hearts to sing His praise."

As you come to worship this weekend, would you think about that? Come and worship and expect God to do what only He can do. Ask Him to tune your heart and to conquer your and His enemies. Worship Well.
