Just as Happy? Desire more!
A recent quote from Arnold Schwarzenegger "Money doesn't make you happy. I now have $50 million, but I was just as happy when I had $48 million."
True? When you have something that is so valuable and that is more then sufficient for your needs and wants, a bit more does not move the happy needle too much. That is in the temporal world of things, money and power.
In the spiritual realm not so, but perhaps we live like it. We have Christ who is more then enough and we should want more. Not "other stuff" like a big screen TV, but more of Him and the kingdom. When we get it we will be happier. The bible says, "blessed"." Jesus talks about it in Matthew 5. When we are poor in spirit, when we mourn, when we are meek, when we hunger and thirst for righteousness. All of those things are found in and through Christ. We can never get enough of Him and the blessings that come through Him. Satisfied yet hungry for more.
So how do we go about "getting happier?" Perhaps we first remind ourselves we are in Christ and then we, with others, pursue the things of Christ. Those who are poor, those who are mourning, those who are downtrodden and those who hunger. We will find more of Christ there and we will be happier for it. As we come close now to thinking about the world and the great need, I encourage you to go to Ephesians 2 and meditate on the building that is being built that we are part of. Christ is the cornerstone, we are the bricks and prayer will be our mortar as we build the next layer in our generation.
