Older and wiser than me
I had the distinct privilege tonight of sitting around a dining room table with five men who are younger then me and one who is older. The older man taught. Leviticus, Exodus and other parts of the Bible. He took us on a journey through Genesis to the Gospels to Revelation and back. It was wonderful. It was emotional. It was "heart and mind opening." I wish I would have taped it.
Scripture talks of rising when someone older enters the room. We should. Out of respect. Out of love. Out of humility. Some, who are further down the road then we are, happen to be closer to God. That sounds melodramatic but it is not. Some have been through the valley, over the hill and through ten more valleys. They see and feel the presence of God and they see and feel when God is withholding His presence. They are worth being in the presence of.
So how does this help you? Here is a question. Who do you know who is older, wiser, Godly? I mean at least 15 years your senior? I want to beg you to seek out someone like that who will spend time with you, impart love, emotion and knowledge to you for the sake of the kingdom. Make time to get with them. Invite them to come and speak to your group. Share a meal and ask questions. You will be blessed. I was tonight and, because of that, I will worship the One who loves me enough to give me a mentor like Bob Edmiston well tonight.
