Lets Lament
It is not a popular thing. I can not imagine "Lament Lounges" springing up around the country. TLC will probably not have a "Lamentables" program soon. No coffee mugs with "I'm Lamenting" emblazoned on the side. Lamenting has an upward battle in the year 2006 to become the "in" thing.
That being said, the psalmists and others may point the way for us. Jeremiah was a lamenter. He really had done the bidding of the Lord by prophesying that God's people were not acting as such, that trouble was coming and it did. Finding himself right in the middle of it, (isn't it ironic that you can be the "righteous" person and speak truth and still you are in the middle of the turmoil?) he wrote Lamentations. "He has broken my teeth with gravel, he has trampled me in the dust" He just spits it out there. The "he" is God.
I wonder where you are as we head to worship. Has he "trampled" you a bit, have you "seen affliction by the rod of His wrath?" If so, come and we will read all of the passage. There is good news about His mercies, the morning, newness, and His great love. We will start with the end in mind and worship Him well.
