Math by Hand

A friend of mine and I did a math problem tonight by hand. No calculator. It was a problem in which we added up 8 numbers and then divided by 8 to get the average. Very cool if I do say so. As he did the work, I mentally did it with him. I was the "checker" and I confirmed his work.

Now I know you might be saying, "Randy, a calculator can do that!" True. But a calculator can not create a sense of team, of communication, of accountability, of connection both verbally and emotionally. When we were done, my friend said, "Thanks for the help" A calculator never says that.

I think Marshal McLuan was right when he said that every invention when over extended leads to isolationism. We can do a lot by ourselves, but perhaps we should not. The blessed triune God did not need creation, but He is more glorified by it. The beauty of the earth and the praise of men cries out to Him and magnifies His name. When two or three are gathered together; when a community is formed and when people pray in one accord something happens that is beyond the individual. It is a reflection of our union with Christ and the trinity. So I encourage us as we worship well this weekend to worship together; for the joy of the Lord. Blessings
