Lost
Hard to believe I did not blog about "Lost" yesterday. For those of you not watching it...this will still make sense hopefully. Most people know the basic outline of the show. People have crash landed on an island and it is wierd. Other people have lived there for a longer time and there is a strange experiment going on. So what is it about?
I think this show is about relationships, community and seeking meaning in life. All of the characters have sin in their past and all of them have "paid a price" for their sin in one way or another. No one knows freedom and now they are trapped on an island of mistrust. They have been thrown together and as they see that there are "others" who are out to harm them they begin to band together to accomplish a goal; finding out truth. Along they way, they get to know one another and the fear, pain and sin within.
Now as I think about that and worshipping God I begin to think that the church should be a bit more like that. In "flashbacks" we all see our past and our sin and we should all look to the One who is the island maker and more so the One who gives us freedom.
That by the way is one of the problems for our castaways. They are looking on the island as opposed to beyond it for the answers. The island did not just get there. Someone created it. That is a good pointer for us too. To look beyond at the One who made it. The island does not have the answers, the Maker does. Genesis 4:26 "At that time men began to call on the name of the Lord"
