Lucky Charms
My daughter came into our bedroom last night as Dorothy and I were reading. She had a friend over and she asked, "Can we go to the store? I have an incredible urge for some Lucky Charms cereal" It was 11 o'clock at night and we quickly pulled out our "nice but no" response:
"Great idea but lets pass on that for tonight."
Now I have to say, as she walked out, I thought, "Mmm, Lucky Charms. They are magically delicious and they would taste good." I resisted.......but man I could taste them.
I got to thinking about it today as I was in a discussion with a youth leader about students. He said he did not want the bible to be like vegetables. People read it because it is good for them, not because it tastes good. He wanted the Word to be like honey. Sweet and tasty so that students would come in at 11 o'clock at night and say, "I have an incredible urge."
In order to get there I am thinking we need, as parents and leaders, to pray that the Holy Spirit will give us all a hunger for the word AND we need to not fill up on junk food ourselves (TV, newspapers, Internet) The reality is the Word is honey; it is our tastebuds that need to be "unseared." I am praying this week that you and I will taste and see that the Lord is good and we will have an incredible urge for the Word. You can not force that. He has to give it. So I am praying now that He would AND I am opening my bible.
