Caught!
Steve Brown will be with us tonight. I know we will be caught red-handed. He is teaching on stealing. I am sure you all can think of your childhood examples: cookies, a quarter, a peek at the Christmas presents etc. What is harder is last week's examples. I will let Steve unpack that.
I will say that the very good news is that we will have some time in prayer after he preaches to confess, to receive forgiveness, to pledge an intention, to ask the spirit to fill us etc so it will be good.
I would love for us to think ahead, even now to next week. Will we steal again? In what way? What is your (or my) preferred vehicle of theft? Maybe if we can identify that, at least we can begin to ask God to take the edge off. Is it the eyes (stealing a look), the ears (listening to what is not ours to hear) , the hand (holding what does not belong to us)?
I am sure there are more. I plan to reflect a bit on that today as I prepare to worship well tonight. I plan to come, to ask God to examine me, to search me and find the theft within me. And I will know, just like the thief on the cross, that Jesus remembered me when He came into His kingdom.
