Humility and The Packers

I am a Packer fan (Green Bay). I keep thinking I will be able to say someday, "The Pack is Back!" Now that I have admitted that, I can talk about....... humility......I need it.

I find the culture I live in wars against the concept of humility because we are called to be #1, to be winners and to trounce the other team. Humility is antithetical to the American psyche. It is antithetical to the mindset of the nation-state.

When I think about it, I know that those who are Christ followers are exactly that: followers of Christ first, second and last. Now as our leader, Jesus modelled humility. He humbled Himself and became servant to all. Even to death on the cross. Humility is the opposite of pride.

As Andrew Murray says, "..pride (the loss of humility) is the root of every sin and evil. " Adam had it, as did Moses, David and Peter. I have it. I want to be #1 and be ahead of others because I think I deserve it. That is wrong.

So Jesus comes and says, "How about I submit to the Father and humble myself" The Father says, "Yes, and I will exalt you!"

I will continue to root for the Pack, but I want to worship well and humble myself in the sight of the Lord by asking Him to give me humility in all things that I might be a servant to all.
