The Psalter
Well you really have to get in to it to get "in" to it. I am talking about the "Psalter." It is a a book of the psalms set to music that they (the Psalms) may be sung in church. The Scots got it going way back in the mid 1600's. The thinking was, "What better words to sing to God then His words?" I can see their point. "Not to us, Lord not to us, but to your name glory give!"
I like the ones that rhyme. I am sure alot of thought was put into those so as to not lose the theological correctness. From Psalm 51:
"O Lord be merciful unto me
On thy grace I rest my plea
In thy vast abounding grace
My transgressions all erase
Wash me wholly from my sin
Cleanse, from every ill within"
Some folks believe in "strict psalmody" (ie) no hymms. I do think it could get a little carried away, so some caution is needed. God gave us creative minds and the ability to praise Him, so when someone writes, "Indescribable, uncontainable, You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name" that is using the language of the Lord and the mind of the created. I am glad Laura did that and I am glad we have the Psalter.
Here is a link to one of those who writes with the language of the Lord:
