Ice Cream for the Generations

I have a young friend. From time to time he stops by and we have ice cream. We chat about life and school and writing and stuff. Today he learned how to fill up a gas tank in a car. Simple stuff. Life. An older man taking an interest in imparting a bit to a younger man.

And a younger man, by being himself and being real, imparting a fresh lesson to an older man. Generations. I am thinking we are losing a step in generation to generation time spent. It has to be scheduled. When I grew up, I spent alot of time with aunts and uncles and grandfathers. I got the good with the bad. I learned how to pump gas at my uncle's gas station, how to sweep a floor at my uncle's construction site, how to shoot pool, how to pour concrete etc....how to live and work and play from those who had gone before me.

I think it takes time to spend with a kid to hang, teach, learn and talk. Time seems to be a short commodity these days for many. Dads. Moms. Kids.

So today I am praying for the generations. That we would spend time together. Loving and learning. And listening. Blessings
