No Sin

Most would agree I think that no one who is a Christ follower can wear a t-shirt with that written on it and be real. Christians say they have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. All. Moms, dads, pastors, teachers, boys and girls. People who are unknown and people who are very well known. "How often?" Answer:Daily. So it should not surprise me to see sin in the newspaper, if it is "a daily ritual" with me and I am average "every man" Christian.

That does not mean it is ok. Or that we should give up, roll over and play dead. It means we should be vigilant, and in community and open and diligent as we pursue holiness. And it means we should be suspect if we are not talking about it. (I am going to get "Puritan" on you here, so hang on.) They (the Puritans) talked about their sin alot. So did the leaders of the Great Awakening. So did Paul the apostle. They hated it and they talked about it. They longed for an end to it and they fought against it. They cried out to the Holy Spirit to change them and to Jesus to come again and end it.

And somehow it seems to me, because they did, they were drawn close to God and away from common sin. They did, more and more, see the true filthy rags of their righteousness, but they began to see a change in the community because of how they lived. Not more money, power and prestige, but more God in the camp which led to more humility in the people. They wore the righteousnes of Christ; He is the one with clothes let alone a T shirt.

So I pray this weekend that we would put on Christ again and ask the Holy Spirit to show us our sin that we might be set free from it once again. God made Him who knew no sin to become sin, for us.
