A Workman Approved

I listened a bit today to a biography of John Bunyan. He suffered and so did his family. During the 1600's you were either "in" or "out" and he found himself out most of his life, which put him in jail a good bit. The story is a bit fuzzy but he may well have written Pilgrim's Progress while in jail. I do encourage you to read it if you have not. Stick with it, as it will take you about 50 pages to get into the language.

As I listened, I was reminded that suffering for the cause of Christ hs not been uncommon with our people. People are being martyred even today for their faith and many are being persecuted in some form or fashion. It does seem to be a bit less common here in America, especially the south. I wonder why.

In the book of Acts Luke says that people were amazed at the Christian community and they persecuted them. I am thinking about how amazed people might be at the current Christian community. Maybe not too much. It seems the early church was making an impact and some really liked that while others did not.

Lord, that we would make an impact!
