Shake off the Dust

I ran across a comment by John Calvin in which he speaks of us having faith, but not perfect faith. We still have the "dust of unbelief" on our souls. Sanctification is then the process by which we "shake off the dust" of unbelief. When we sit idle and do not pursue the things of Christ, dust accumulates. That is a great word picture for me.

I know there are certain places in my house that I can go (behind the bed for example) and see the dust that has accumulated. They are places that are "off the beaten track" where I do not go often. Places where not much activity has taken place. Places that are hidden from public view.

To worship God I must be willing to seek the dusty places and to shake them out. Places where the dust of greed, anxiety, fear, and other idols sits and collects. It is a bit of a messy thing, to shake off dust and I know that I need a "Cleaner" and a rag to do it. I am praying that the light will shine where it needs to and dust will be revealed. I am praying that for all of us.
