Liar

Have you ever called someone that to their face or been called that? Strong language. In today's politically correct world we usually say, "He may be mistaken" or "He does not have his facts straight."

Not Jesus. When you are the truth, what is not of you is a lie. In the eighth chapter of John, Jesus skillfully teaches those around that they are illegitimate children. Children of the Liar. In verses 42-45 He says things that would get Him sued for slander today. Of course He would win, but that was not His intent; to win a court case. His intent was to draw distinction between those who are His and those who are not.

The whole dialogue started with this, "If you hold to my teaching, you really are my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free."  So, how are we doing?

Let's not get confused. Holding to His teaching does not mean perfect obedience. It means that we say, "Yes, His teaching is truth and I strive to live it by His power and my free will." As we do that we will more and more be set free from the law and live freely as sons and daughters. It also means we recognize He is truth. That is bigger. Everything outside of Him is a lie. Everything. I won't unpack that here, but can I encourage you to think about what is attached to your life that is not of Him?  It is from the devil. As you do see it, can I then encourage you to ask Christ to redeem, reclaim and make all things in your life come under His mighty dominion? Be encouraged. If you are a believer in Jesus, you belong to God and you can hear His word today and be changed by it.
