Exile Returns Tonight
I was in the Word a bit recently and was reminded of the table. It seems like when God's people were through fooling around, chasing after other gods and generally messing up they came back to Him, by His prompting, and repented. Then they sat at the table.
Hezekiah does, Josiah does, Nehemiah, Ezra does. Listen to Ezra 6:21, "So the Israelites who had returned from exile ate it, together with all who had separated themselves from unclean practices of their (Gentile) neighbors in order to seek the Lord." In the Old Testament it is the Passover, looking forward to Christ. In the New Testament it is the Lord's Supper. Both are a mystery of grace bestowed to those who have sinned, been forgiven and humbly come to the Table. His Table.
So as I am preparing to go to church, I am thinking I have been an exile this week, I want to separate myself from unclean practices and I want to seek the Lord. I meet the criteria.Pretty simple. For those who come Saturday nights, it is a package deal. Worship well this weekend.
