Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.
"It is, in truth, not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom; for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself." Declaration of Arbroath 1320AD
A long time before Scotsmen were fighting the English, men and women gave their lives for the sake of their cause. Throughout the ages spouses, daughters and sons have been left behind as widows and orphans. But God's promise stands true. His children are not orphans. He is a Father to the fatherless and He tenderly cares for those who are grief stricken as a mother does her sickly infant. He will reunite the dead in Christ. He will hear the cries of His people from the valley. Those in Christ will walk again in freedom in the garden of the Lord. Claude Michel Schonberg wrote our hearts well for the living and the dead:
Do you hear the people sing
Lost in the valley of the night?
It is the music of a people
Who are climbing to the light.
For the wretched of the earth
There is a flame that never dies.
Even the darkest night will end
And the sun will rise.
They will live again in freedom
In the garden of the Lord.
They will walk behind the plough-share,
They will put away the sword.
The chain will be broken
And all men will have their reward.
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Do you hear the people sing?
Say, do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that they bring
When tomorrow comes!
