Moving Day
Our daughter moved out today. College grad. Good job. Bought a condo. Just like that. After we finished loading the last truck, we stood for a moment in her bedroom. Five of us. I said, "Lets pray." It took me about fifteen seconds to get the first words out. I did not want to babble. "Thank you God." Then a long pause that I tried to make look more like a reflective moment then a dad all choked up. "Thank you God for giving us this daughter, for 21 years, for doing a work in her heart. For the witness and joy she has been. We have been blessed."
I am not sure how other parents feel, but I can say that we feel that our relationship with our daughter is wonderful. She is not moving "to get away" so we will still have a joyful relationship with her. She is an adult, but she will still seek our wisdom and we will seek hers. We will always be her parents and she will be our daughter. A bond that can not be broken. In fact the bond is stronger as she matures. We do know that time spent will be harder, but she knows where she can get a free dinner when times are tight so that should be a good incentive.
The Lord gives and He takes away. Blessed be His name. The Lord is gracious. The Lord, the Lord God almighty. He is the author of the family and He knows what a blood bond is.
When we got to her new place we prayed again. This time for the provision, for the neighborhood for all that is to come. We unloaded, help set up, and left. Then I went to church and worshipped. I worshipped well tonight. Blessings
