Help God Remember

That may sound like a strange thing. Does God forget? No AND it is helpful for us to pray "reminding" Him of His words. Moses does this in Exodus 32 after the golden calf episode. He says, "Remember your servants....."

Remembering what God has done and who He is happens to be a good way for us to draw near to Him. And asking Him to remember what He has promised and done is a good way to ask Him to draw near to us. We should remember the joy of the first days of our salvation, remember the sweet times we have had with the Lord, remember the "closeness" we once had. This is especially important during times of dryness, when we are "backsliden a bit" or we feel distant from God.

This exercise is more then a "remember the good old days." God uses it to stir up and awaken our souls by the power of the Holy Spirit. That is why you hear the psalmist remembering so much as in Psalm 42:6 "My soul is downcast within me therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan....deep calls to deep....."

And our God says in Jeremiah 2:2 "I remember the devotion of your youth, how as a bride you loved me and followed me through the desert through a land not sown"

The joy of a newlywed is what we long for as we remember the past, look to the future and rest in the present so that we can worship well.
